Create a World of Wonder!

Hand a child a standard pew Bible then hand them Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Cat in the Hat, or an American Girl Book.  What happens next?  Probably the same thing that happens to you when you are faced with the choice of ESPN, Pinterest, or the Bible.  They, just like you, choose what entertains them.  So why has the Bible become the lowest common denominator on the list of choices?  Is it because of an influx of media?  Is it because of the wave of postmodernism that has hit our culture?  Is it because the Bible has become viewed as a historical book instead of the breathed out words of the living God?  Maybe.

Or maybe we have forgotten in the busyness of life how to create a world of wonder for our children.  Maybe we have forgotten to take time to notice the wonder of our great and mighty God as well.  God’s wonder is all around us.  From the fish in the sea to the birds in the trees.  From the lowest valley to the highest mountain we are surrounded by the awesome wonder of God.  But what is exciting is that we can see the great and powerful wonders of God in our own living room just by opening up His Word.  If you want to stir up wonder and amazement in you or your child’s life, open up the Living Word of God and drink deep.  Here at Howard’s Creek Church, we are putting an emphasis on reading and knowing the scriptures in our individual lives.  If we are putting that emphasis on our lives, shouldn’t we be putting it into our children’s lives?

You may be asking at this point, how do I use the Bible in such a way to create a world of wonder for my child?  Well, there are a ton of resources out there to help.  Here are just a few that I would recommend:
